"Capacity building is NOT about a training workshop. Building real capacity can be achieved when a combination of methods is used including supporting the practitioner within the organisation. This community based research project focussed on listening and learning from community practitioners, on what they are already doing well and their capacity needs."

Capacity Building

File Name: Building_Capacity.pdf
File Size: 1.10 MB
Version: 1.0
Date: 15. March 2010
Description:

This set of learning materials were generated by the Development Practice project, hosted by the Sustainability Institute and in partnership with the Community Connections, AIDS Consortium and Keystone. This project generated a set of competence standards with development practitioners in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, between 2005 and 2009. This booklet is a collection of thoughts and ideas shared by the partner organisations in a workshop that attempted to define what capacity building is, and how to offer this to organisations. It is envisioned as a document to support the delivery of training and capacity building programmes when using the materials and workshop designs created by the development practice project.

Assessment

"I would like it (competence certificate) but you must also check I do it. It’s very important to visit and see my books and see that I doing what I have to do. …If you can look at my work and then you can ... advise."

Hazel Maposela, 23 May 2007

Assessment of competence deals with the verification of skill of the development practitioner. There are two assessment guides on offer, a Self Assessment Guide (only available to registered users) to check whether the practitioner is ready for external assessment and an Assessors Tool, to guide the assessment of competence.
