Thank You to all
Written by Manda Mabeba, Project Officer Monday, 07 December 2009 09:19
We are pleased to approach the end of yet another productive year and we’d like to thank everyone who supported the project in some way or the other, the partners, the writers, website guru’s and the organisations who’ve registered and used the materials. We’d like to take this opportunity and reflect on the past year and what its store for the future.
I have trodden the winepress alone, and I know
That it is hard to be really useful, resigning
The things that men count for happiness, seeking
The good deeds that lead to obscurity, accepting
With equal face those that bring ignominy,
The applause of all or the love of none
All men are ready to invest their money
But most expect dividends.
I say to you: Make perfect your will
I say: take no thought of the harvest,
But only of proper sowing.
TS Eliot
From the choruses of ‘The Rock’
In an attempt to make our will perfect and to improve proper sowing we remember the following:
- This website was established to connect our organisations and practitioners around the critical issue of capacity development.
- We have developed 23 sets of learning materials
- The project has successfully managed to be involved with the SAQA on the level 3 development practice qualifications. This means that organisations can align the project materials to the SAQA unit standards.
Looking Forward
“The most serious climate change will affect the poorest of the poorest the harshest. The complexities of the world are changing at a faster rate”.
Richard Stern
The project has shifted slightly, taking the initial concept into a sustainability focus, looking at communities and the challenges they face, HIV, TB, Education etc. The economic system affects communities and its impact we see through the above challenges, politically, looking at human rights and grants. We recognised that an element that’s neglected by CBO’s when bringing about change is the environment and sustainability is an integration of all these elements. Our quest is to find the balance. In finding relevance in sustainability, the balance is to make sure that the richer don’t get richer and for the marginalised to find their freedoms.
We cannot discuss sustainability, if we cannot strengthen the voice of communities and we can’t do that without building capacity. The imbalance of power and poverty is embedded in these voices. This means enabling citizens to organise, to lead, to advocate etc. Creating a system that helps people validate the work they are doing and giving capability to exercise their voice. Our work is to build capacity and build strength in community voices.
We hope that you will continue to support the project further, into its new focus. And, the website with its new look. Enjoy!!
